Fortaleza, Brazil is internationally known as a popular tourist spot thanks to its incredible beaches and carefree atmosphere.
Unfortunately, Fortaleza is also known as a center of prostitution and sex trafficking in South America. It was recently classified as “The third best place for sex tourism” in the world, making it a destination point for the worst of reasons.
This kind of tourism does nothing to boost the general economy, rather it further entrenches entire communities in poverty. In fact, 1 in 3 people live in one of the more than 550 slums in the city, and many of the children grow up abandoned and without parents.
Iris Fortaleza has positioned itself in the center of these neighborhoods to share the transforming truth of the Gospel. They are a missional community reaching out with compassion to those in need in the slums and the brothels, letting the light of Christ shine through the darkness. By the grace of God, they are seeing breakthrough!
We are so excited to support our Iris Fortaleza location by adding their children’s programs into sponsorship! This program will help children by providing for their education and transportation to school. These children are a part of the community program which gives them the opportunity to hear the Gospel and receive mentoring and discipleship. This program protects vulnerable children and helps them stay in their families by supporting their education.
